Ooooooh Galileo

First of all, does anyone else find it amazing that we have actual documents from Galileo's inquisition? I am simply fascinated by this fact...but that really doesn't relate to my blog post at all.

As I was reading the documents, I began to think about how political the Church's actions were. This, of course, led me to ponder the Church's current political actions. I think we could all agree that the Church's actions in Galileo's case were a bit extreme. I am wondering if the Church is still acting in the same way when it comes to science or if modern arguments are different because they are more based on the actual morality of the issue (such as stem cell research).

Also...there is a movie about Galileo which starts Michael Moriarty who also used to play Ben Stone on Law & Order. Quick fun fact (and if anyone has access to this movie, let me know).
