Ethics

I know one of the topics we've been discussing so far this semester has been the role of ethics in science. P. 98 of Cohen recounts how Baliani calls Galileo out on some of his data concerning the cannon ball experiment. Baliani recognized that there was no tower high enough in Genoa for Galileo to have been able to perform his experiment, yet he said that he had performed "repeated experiments". Galileo's later response was that "it mattered little whether the five seconds for 100 braccia was true or not". Do you agree with Galileo? Personally, I would probably feel uncomfortable putting my faith in a scientist who was falsifying experimentation. I think it brings up a good point for discussion about the ethics of science at this time.
