I am still confused as to why the Church has such a huge issue with Galileo's interpretations of Scripture. Galileo points out that Augustine does something very similar in his writings, yet he was never placed under house arrest. What was so problematic with a heliocentric universe? The Church currently recognizes that we live in a heliocentric universe and nothing catastrophic has happened to Catholicism as a result.
